On Friday, October 10, 2025, ISHR hosted a training titled "Community Engagement for Human Rights Practitioners."
The workshop, which is part of ISHR’s Human Rights Training Series, was hosted by HRSMA alum Nahal Zamani and focused on the intersection of theory and practice at the workplace and discussed strategies to  implement inclusive methodologies that center impacted communities in decision-making and design. Students tailored a blueprint/timeline for community engagement to their own human rights and social justice work, reviewed case studies, and identified impactful interventions at the individual and programmatic level.
Nahal Zamani currently serves as a Director of State Campaigns at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Previously, Nahal was the Senior Vice President at the State Innovation Exchange (SiX), working with state legislators to advance bold public policy. Before SiX, Nahal was the first-ever Director of Movement Building at Demos, a progressive think tank that powers the movement for a just, inclusive, multiracial democracy. Nahal holds an M.A. in Human Rights Studies from Columbia University and a B.A. from Rutgers University.
