    About ProDESC

    ProDESC is a human rights organization based in Mexico City that works to defend and advance economic, social, and cultural rights through strategic litigation, communication, community organizing, research and transnational advocacy. We collaborate closely with workers, communities, and collectives organizing to protect their territories, labor rights, and dignity, while promoting accountability for corporations and state actors across borders.

    Volunteer Duties

    • Support research and documentation related to human rights cases, with a focus on labor rights, Indigenous territorial defense, protection of human rights defenders at risk, and corporate accountability.
    • Assist in drafting written materials, including reports, press releases, and advocacy or communications documents.
    • Participate in internal team meetings and contribute to the planning and coordination of public events, workshops, and outreach activities.
    • Provide administrative and and logistical support to ongoing projects, according to organizational needs.

    Preferred qualifications of Volunteers

    • Academic background in law, social sciences, international relations, or related fields
    • Research and writing skills (in English and/or Spanish).
    • Strong interest in labor rights, human rights, and transnational justice.
    • Commitment to human rights, gender equality, and environmental justice.

    Title of Person Who Will Supervise Volunteers: Research & Advocacy Coordinator

    Living Arrangements Available to Volunteers: Volunteers are responsible for their own housing. However, ProDESC can provide referrals to safe and affordable accommodation options near our office in the Condesa neighborhood in Mexico City.

    • Type: Shared housing, homestays, and short-term rentals are commonly available.
    • Cost: Approx. USD $350–$650/month depending on location and duration.
    • Location: Most suggested options are within a 5–25 minute commute to ProDESC’s office.

    Application Instructions

    Applications will be accepted between December 1 st and January 15th. Students should fill out this Google Form where they should also upload their cover letter and resume. In your cover letter, please indicate the organizations that you are interested in working with, the relevance of this work to your studies and how your qualifications relate to the opportunities you are applying for. If you apply for more than one opportunity, please indicate in your cover letter your first and second choices and clearly explain why you are qualified for each opportunity. Applications will then be sent to the hosting organizations, which will request interviews with those students who they feel are the right match. The organizations will be asked to make their final decisions no later than March 1st.  You will be asked to respond to their offer of placement within 5 business days so as to allow them to make another offer if you decide you are no longer interested.
