Human Rights Research Award 2024 Now Accepting Applications

The ISHR Human Rights Research Award will provide students with an opportunity to gain valuable research experience, while supporting the work of Columbia faculty conducting human rights-related research. The research opportunities selected for the 2024-2025 academic year are enclosed (each opportunity includes distinct contact information for applying). Students who receive the Fellowship are expected to complete at least 80 hours of research assistance during the academic year.

We are very glad that Columbia continues to celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day. The University has followed the appeal of Native American students and numerous other students, faculty, and staff over the years asking for this Day to be honored. The celebration of the Day is a clear trend among various other universities as well as cities and states in this country.

HRSMA Alum Awarded Davis Fellowship

Daniil Alekseev, a recent graduate from the M.A. in Human Rights program, was awarded the Davis Fellowship. This fellowship is a merit award funded by a $10 million bequest from the late Kathryn Wasserman Davis, 1931 Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
1990 Advocate Addresses Conditions for War Crimes Court in Liberia to Succeed

1990 Advocate Tiawan Saye Gongloe of Liberia (3rd from the left) was the keynote speaker at a public forum in September hosted by the Liberia Massacre Survivors Association with support from the Africa Transitional Justice Legacy Fund. During the forum, participants expressed their opinions on the establishment of a war crimes court in the country.
