2021-22 AHDA Fellow Publishes New Book

2021-22 Alliance for Historical Dialogue and Accountability (AHDA) Fellow, Mphathisi Ndlovu, recently published a book he co-edited. The book is titled "Remembering Mass Atrocities: Perspectives on Memory Struggles and Cultural Representations in Africa." Two other fellows in the 2021-22 AHDA cohort, Ngozika Anthonia Obi-Ani and Pedro Gonzalez Corona, contributed chapters to the book.

Advocate Recognized for Advancing Global Education

In February, 1993 Advocate Luis Felipe Polo of Peru was awarded an Honorary Doctorate during the "Sixth World Summit on Educational Globalization and Transdisciplinarity 2024," hosted by the International Federation of FINTES Specialists in Mexico City. He was recognized for his significant contributions and efforts towards advancing global education. Presenting the conference titled "Social Commitment in Universities," Luis Felipe Polo proposed a strategy for universities to play a more prominent role, actively influencing public policies and fostering a new era of humanity.

ISHR Welcomes the Global Participants of the 2023-24 Human Rights Advocates Program at Winter Reception

The Institute for the Study of Human Rights (ISHR) welcomed the 35th cohort of the Human Rights Advocates Program (HRAP) ) at a reception on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. The nine advocates work on issues including LGBTQI+ rights, Indigenous Peoples’ rights, transitional justice, disability rights, women's rights, and environmental justice around the world.

The Institute for the Study of Human Rights (ISHR) and the Human Rights Institute at Columbia Law welcomed Bukeni Waruzi (left), the executive director of Free the Slaves, who gave the inaugural Human Rights Advocates Program (HRAP) Memorial Lecture. Nearly 50 Columbia faculty, staff, students and members of the human rights community in NYC gathered on Thursday, February 15th, to honor the life and activism of Raoul Kitungano who attended the 2016 HRAP at ISHR.
