Congratulations to 2022-23 Advocate Antonia Moreira who was recently recognized as one of this year's Innovators Under 35 by MIT's Technology Review - Brazil. Antonia was chosen for her work promoting income-generation and empowerment projects for the trans community at Transmoras where she now serves as an advisor.

Congratulations to 1993 Advocate Kutjim Çashku (center), founder and executive director of the International Human Rights Film Festival Albania, on the festival’s 20th anniversary. Çashku is a film director, screenwriter, and producer dedicated to expanding human rights through film in his country of Albania. Some of Çashku’s most notable works include Kolonel Bunker, a story about the communist regime in Albania, and Magic Eye, a story about manipulation in today’s media.

Carly Sandstrom graduated from the Human Rights Studies M.A. (HRSMA) program in 2024. She shares her experience during her time as a student at Columbia.

Please share a bit about yourself and the work that you do

I graduated from ISHR with my MA in human rights studies in 2024. Following my studies, I worked at a behavioral health non-profit in rural Michigan as the grant administrator. I am currently a PhD student in political science at Notre Dame where my research focuses on themes of democracy, human rights, political violence, and armed conflict.
